Rupture of central-force lattices

2014 We study numerically the rupture of elastic lattices consisting of fragile elastic springs which can freely rotate around nodes. All bonds are given an identical force constant but the threshold force for which they break is randomly attributed to each bond according to a uniform probability distribution between 0 and 1. We analyse the overall force-displacement characteristics of the lattices and other physical parameters as function of lattice size. Various scaling relations are found. Finally, we found evidence for a multifractal distribution of forces at the ultimate stage of the rupture. J. Phys.
